spell shield in UW
Has anyone tried spell shield in a solo underworld run to get rid of the dying nightmares? I'd like to replace SOJ with Spell Breaker but I wont be able to deal any damage.
Spell Shield: For 5...17 seconds, while you are casting spells, you cannot be the target of spells. When Spell Shield ends, all of your skills are disabled for 10...6 seconds.
I keep trying to solo UW and the nightmares always make my run a nightmare (pun intended). If anyone could give some feedback on this skill, or anything else I can try, I would appreciate it.

Hmm...have you tried casting something like Mending when Rend Enchantments is almost done so that it triggers Spell Shield?

heres the follow up:
it worked somewhat, but the nightmare didn't die, since his rend enchantments didnt actually remove any of my enchantment. eventually, spell shield ended and all my skills were disabled for 10 secs, wasting another 1k

You're supposed to wand the nightmares to kill them... They're not supposed to kill themselves. It's an interesting idea, but due to the fact that you need to be casting often to maintain your timed enchants, the skill disabling would likely be a problem. It could work, but it would still be massively slower than any dual farming method, which makes it a moot point.
It could lead to some interesting experimentation and discussion though, so I'll leave it open *moved to Farming*

I think this would work, with a 20% ench...and spell shield maxed out !
-cast 2 bonds
-run up cast spell shield, cast 3rd bond
-wand nightmare
-wait till u see spell shield ping
-use prot spirit and breeze
prot and breeze will last longer than 6 - 10 secs...soz it might work
i'm not gonna test it tho, low on cash

its easy, what you do, is cast spell shield run in and agro attaxes, nightmare pops up, click on it, watch rend enchatment right before it finisihes, cast SOJ, u have to time it right since SOJ 1 sec to cast, however very easy to do, u will interupt his rend enchantments and then he will attack u when he does SOJ will kill him

oh btw, i run a Mo/E and use glph of concentration so i dont get intrupted, so when i start off i cast usualy enchantments, then spell shield, PS, and glyp, then that way the attaxes wont intrupt SOJ when i try and put it up

If I were to use spell shield -- which I'm going to try in the future-- the build would be pretty basic.
I would use:
A Mo/W (55 of course)
18-20% longer chanting sword with a maxed wand to switch out (so you can kill nightmares easily)
And the -50hp grim cesta of course
Skill wise-
Prot Spirit
Bonetti's D
Heal Breeze
Shield of Judge
Spell Shield
Sprint
Mending
Balths Spirit
Only reason I am taking sprint is that it will act as a "personal saver." using Spell Shield will require timing. In a Mo/W I use BD as my source of anti-interuption -- but of course it needs adrenaline-- And you need to be casting a spell during Spell Shield so Mending would pretty much work as a Spell Shield trigger. And incase you realize your enchats are going off you can trigger sprint and run away and cast PS or lose your arggo. I can see where Spell Shield would work -- but I still prefer 2 man UW over solo because of time-- and Soloing farming isn't like it used to be. It's no longer fast-paced, so it loses its fun.
--God I miss griffons and UW w/o nightmares--
But it helped save our GW from going into economical frenzy.
